High Wind Advisory in Effect
CHARLESTON, SC (03/08/08) --

A high wind advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for most of the South Carolina and Georgia coastline. Winds are expected to increase to as much as 30 knots later today with gusts of 45 knots possible.

URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHARLESTON SC
435 AM EST SAT MAR 8 2008

THE WIND ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EST THIS EVENING.

WEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 25 TO 35 MPH ACROSS ALL OF SOUTHEAST
SOUTH CAROLINA AND SOUTHEAST GEORGIA TODAY IN THE WAKE OF A
STRONG COLD FRONT. GUSTS MAY REACH AS HIGH AS 50 MPH AT TIMES THIS
AFTERNOON ACROSS SOUTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA AND UP TO 40 TO 45 MPH
ACROSS SOUTHEAST GEORGIA. WINDS OF THIS MAGNITUDE CAN EASILY BREAK
LARGE TREE LIMBS AND MAKE SMALL UNTIED OBJECTS BECOME AIRBORNE.
WET SOILS AFTER YESTERDAYS HEAVY RAIN MAY MAKE SOME WEAKER TREES
VULNERABLE TO SNAPPING OR BLOWING OVER. HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES WILL
BE ALSO BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO CROSS WINDS IN MANY PLACES. CONDITIONS
ARE EXPECTED TO QUICKLY IMPROVE THIS EVENING AS HIGH PRESSURE
BUILDS INTO THE REGION.

INCLUDES...THE RAVENEL BRIDGE...THE DON HOLT BRIDGE...THE JAMES B.
EDWARDS BRIDGE...THE BEN SAWYER BRIDGE...THE ISLE OF PALMS
CONNECTOR...THE AMOS NATHANIEL RODGERS BRIDGE...THE WOODS MEMORIAL
BRIDGE AND THE TALMADGE MEMORIAL BRIDGE.
