Buyer's Market in Area Boat Slips
CHARLESTON, SC (01/15/08) --

It wasn't all that long ago that a boat slip was difficult to find in the Charleston area. What could be found was expensive. New marinas, marina conversions to dockominiums, and the economy have all combined to create an excellent buyer's market in boat slips.

Mariner's Cay Marina is a great example. This full-service marina, including diesel fuel and a ships store, is located on the Folly River just 12 nautical miles from the Intracoastal Waterway. The marina is well protected and the Folly River offers easy access to the Stono River and Atlantic Ocean. Morris Island and the Morris Island lighthouse is a short dinghy ride away as well.

Slips available will accommodate boats up to 60 feet. Mariner's Cay is a gated condominium community which offers added security for your vessel. Although the marina is within the Mariner's Cay compound, the Mariner's Cay Marina is a separate entity and ownership of a condominium is not required. Downtown Charleston is only 15 minutes away by car and the beach is an easy walk or bike ride at less than a mile away.

Mariner's Cay Marina was converted to dockominiums and completely renovated in 2006. Many of the original buyers were investors. With the unexpected downturn in the market, these same investors are now offering their slips for sale at discounted prices. There is little question that now is a great time to purchase a slip.
